Las Inundaciones en la Ciudad de México: Problemática y Alternativas de Solución

Abstract

Se analiza el problema de las inundaciones en el Valle de México, partiendo de una perspectiva histórica que, en esencia, muestra que el problema ha sido recurrente desde la época de los aztecas, que siempre se ha buscado una solución que no implique detener el crecimiento de la urbanización en el Valle, pero que también es cierto que las "soluciones" no han sido preventivas, sino que se han desarrollado después de que se presentan inundaciones catastróficas.En relación con la situación actual, se muestra que hay un gran rezago en las obras, particularmente en las relativas a la capacidad de descarga hacia afuera de la calle, lo que implica un alto riesgo de una gran inundación en los próximos años, si no se corrige ese rezago. Finalmente, se plantea la opinión de que debe detenerse el crecimiento urbano en el Valle de México, porque ya es muy difícil mejorar los servicios para la población actual y será imposible hacerlo para una población creciente

The problem of the floods in the Valley of Mexico is analyzed, from a historical point of view that essentially shows that this problem is recurrent since the epoch of the Aztecs. The solution that always has been looked for should not imply to relent the urbanization of the valley, but it is also true that the solutions have not been preventive. They have been developed after catastrophic floods. In the present times, there is an important delay in the works. Specially in the capacity of discharge out of the street works. If this delay is not corrected, there is a high risk of a massive flood in the next years. Finally, it is established that the urban growth in the Valley of Mexico should be stopped, because it is very difficult to improve the services for the actual population and it would be impossible to do it with a increasing amount of people
