El cráter de impacto Chicxulub y el límite Cretácico/Paleógeno

Abstract

En el origen y evolución temprana del Sistema Solar, las colisiones, fragmentación y agregación de cuerpos de diferentes tamaños fueron el proceso que permitió la formación de planetesimales, satélites y planetas. Los impactos y formación de cráteres constituyen el proceso más importante que controla la evolución de las superficies planetarias en el Sistema Solar. En esta nota nos enfocamos en el cráter Chicxulub y el límite Cretácico/Paleógeno y en las implicaciones de impactos de asteroides y cometas que forman cráteres, así como en los efectos en la evolución del planeta y de la vida.

In the origin and early evolution of the Solar System, collisions, fragmentation and aggregation of different sized bodies were the process that allowed the formation of planetesimals, satellites and planets. Impacts and crater formation constitute major processes controlling the evolution of planetary surfaces in the Solar System. In this note we focus on the Chicxulub crater and the Cretaceous/Paleogene boundary, and the implications on crater forming impacts of asteroids and comets and the evolution of the planet and life.
